Replace your Gas / Electric Hot water System to an Electric Heat pump under VEU Program.

VEU (Victorian Energy Upgrade) program is providing financial incentives for replacing your old hot water system to  installing energy-efficient Heat pumps.

With a new hot water system, thousands of Victorian businesses are already saving hundreds on each monthly bill.

Clean, green,

water heating

Heat pumps are the most advanced water heating solutions for both residential and commercial applications. Unlike traditional water heaters, heat pumps do not generate heat. Rather, they use electricity to capture surrounding heat, which makes the process almost three times more effective than traditional solutions.

Our Governemnt approved heat pumps provide swift and stable flow of hot water, while also being energy efficient and environmentally conscious. They are designed ground-up in Australia and made specifically for the usage patterns in the country.

Benefits of Heat Pump water heaters

Still unsure? – The newest heat pumps heat water to a temperature that can be adjusted (30°C to 90°C) by using a CFC-free refrigerant to absorb energy from the surrounding air. Compared to a traditional electric water heater, the electrical energy consumption is 60% lower because only the compressor and fan need to run.

Free of Cost Upgrade under VEU Program

If you are eligible under the VEU program, the products are free of costs most of the time (subject to meeting the free products eligibility criteria).

What is an air source heat pump water heater?

It is a reverse refrigerator. The natural heat flow (from hot to cold body) is reversed in ASHPS. These water heaters absorb heat from ambient air and transmit it to water storage in your home or business.

It is an electricity powered appliance that amplifies the heat extracted from outdoor air by running the refrigerant in the refrigeration cycle through evaporator coils, compressor, condenser coils (or heat exchanger) and expansion valve.

Regular professional service helps maintain the efficiency of the heat pump, extends its lifespan, and prevents potential issues. It’s generally recommended to have a heat pump serviced at least once a year, preferably before the start of the heating or cooling season.

The thermostat will be checked and calibrated if necessary to ensure accurate temperature control.

Will it work in colder climates?

Even in sub-freezing temperatures, ASHP hot water heaters are the best appliance to decarbonize and reduce energy use and save money on utility bills

Modern heat pumps (that includes heat pumps we install under the VEU program) have variable speed air compressors driven by a variable frequency drive (a motor controller that supplies varying frequency and voltage to control the speed of the heat pump compressor). This enables the heat pumps to move heat even in freezing weather conditions when the temperatures are well
below -20 °C.

Heat pumps are more than twice as efficient as fossil fuel heating systems in cold temperatures, research shows. Even at temperatures approaching -30C, heat pumps outperform oil and gas heating systems, according to the research from Oxford University and the Regulatory Assistance Project thinktank – The Guardian.

Present-day heat pumps also use lower boiling point refrigerant liquid. Such refrigerants are able to draw heat from sub-zero ambient temperature and continue to flow through the evaporator coils of the heat pump.

Eligibility

Take up an extra benefit by applying for a $1,000 rebate with Solar Victoria. Here are the requirements to be eligible:

  1. You are the owner-occupier of an existing property where the system is to be installed
  2. The combined household taxable income of all owners is less than $210,000 per year
  3. The property is valued at under $3 million
  4. The property address has not previously received a hot water rebate or a solar battery rebate under the Solar Homes Program
  5. The hot water system to be replaced is at least three years old from the date of purchase.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes! The Victorian state government is offering rebates under the VEU program. The rebates / discounts are being offered to the businesses located in Victoria state and Victorian households who are willing to replace their gas fired or electric water heaters with heat pump powered water heating units.

After the evaluation is complete, we will respond to you within 48 hours or two days with a possible date.

We are awaiting an update from the scheme about the non-electric system upgrades. All other types are eligible for a 50% rebate that covers both the product and installation up until the announcement.

To install the heat pumps on your property, qualified installers with ID proof and licenced technicians with sufficient experience will visit.

This program is available to all qualified Victoria region businesses. We cover the whole region with our coverage.

Current electrical systems are extremely inefficient with managing and maintaining optimal heat levels. While the heat pumps in our solution are continuously running, the compressor fan only kicks in when it needs to be refilled. Our tanks are designed to insulate the heat inside and keep the water inside hot for a long time.

Our tanks are designed to automatically start the refilling and heating process when water reaches a certain level. Under normal consumption patterns, it would take 6 people bathing back-to-back for a tank to drain completely. If you still have concerns, please reach out to our team to explore a dual-tank setup.

The VEU programme heat pump that we install is made to run at a low, barely audible noise level. An increase in operating noise is typically the result of improper installation, an installation location that isn’t meant for the heat pump, or a malfunctioning component. The type and brand of heat pump you are installing will also affect the noise levels.Regularly do the maintenance jobs to keep the noise levels in bearable range.

Heat pump powered water heaters are 6 to 7 times more efficient than gas fired water heaters and 3 to 3.5 times more efficient the conventional electric water heaters.

The space requirements are dependent on the dimensions and size of the heat pump. Before the installation, our team will inspect the site for space and clearance requirements.

Here is a quick walkthrough of the process of installation and claiming of the rebate:

  1. Contact us through our contact form / email or phone.
  2. Share the details of your existing water heating system and the documents required to claim the government rebates. We’ll also discuss the installation timeline.
  3. While we verify the details, our team will inspect the site.
  4. Our team of plumbers and electricians will install the unit in accordance with VEU guidelines and AS/NZS 3000 wiring rules.
  5. Post installation check
  6. We apply for the rebates on your behest.

The average lifespan of heat pump powered water heaters varies between 10 and 15 years. The heat pump lifespan is a factor of:

  • Heat pump installation (is it installed as per the manufacturer’s guidelines?)
  • The product (and its parts’) quality
  • Maintenance
  • The location of the installation (is there any object that is obstructing the airflow?)

As with the other water heaters (be it electric or gas fired), heat pump water heaters also need regular maintenance.

  • Regularly inspect the water heater tank and pipes and look for any damage or leaks in the system. Also ensure that the pipelines are properly insulated to achieve maximum efficiency.
  • Drain the heat pump tank once a year to flush out any limescale build up as the tank base.
  • Remove and clean the air filter (located at the top of the pump) once in 3–4 months. The system also has an inbuilt sensor that alerts the user and raises an alarm if the air filter needs to be replaced or replaced.
  • Check temperature and pressure valve once a year. Open the valve and release the handle to check it returns to its closed position.
Clean the condensate lines (and empty the drain pan) once a year.

There are several factors (like local climate, amount of daily water usage and energy tariff) that influence the amount of energy savings. Heat pump powered water heaters are 200-350% more energy-efficient (and consume 60-75% less electricity) than heating element based resistance water heaters. A typical 190 litres heat pump water heater consumes about 2.5 kWh/day. If we extrapolate this data, you’d get $182.5 (@20 cents/kWh) energy bill for water heating in a year. A conventional 190 litres electric resistance water heater consumes about 10KWh/day and, 3650 kWh a year — which equals to $730 (@20 cents/kWh) in a year. So, the heat pump in this case would save you about $547 in a year.
